Child care worker Harriet McAdam, who
has been struck off after taking a vulnerable teenager on holiday and

A
child care worker has been struck off after taking a vulnerable
teenager on holiday and having sex with an 'unknown' man while the girl
was in the same bed.
Harriet
McAdam, 48, who worked in Bathgate, West Lothian 'engaged in sexual
activity' with the man in the double bed while in Tenerife, before
telling the 17-year-old not to tell anybody about it.
The holiday involved travelling to the resorts of Las Americas and Los Cristianos on the Canary Island in August last year.
It is understood McAdam, was on the trip as part of an official capacity, undertaking 'support worker reponsibilities'.
But after the trip, she was reported to the Scottish Social Services Council, who struck her for 'serious abuses of trust'.
Their
written judgement on the case reveals that McAdam, from Coatbridge,
North Lanarkshire, admitted all the charges and that she had committed
misconduct.
She admitted a charge that she allowed 'an unknown man to be present in the bedroom with the teenager.'
She also admitted engaging 'in sexual activity with an unknown man in a shared bedroom in the same double bed as AA.'
Previously the same night, she allowed the underage girl to drink alcohol and visit bars and nightclubs in the tourist hotspot.
She
also admitted she 'left the girl alone and unsupervised on a promenade'
after meeting the unknown man and deciding to go for a walk along the
beach with him.
McAdam also failed to respond to a request for help from the youngster, who was being harassed by another male stranger.
It
was also found proven that she drank alcohol and was under the
influence whilr undertaking support worker responsibilities for the
girl.
The
panel stated in their written judgement: 'The young service user was
distraught when she was left on the promenade on her own, when the
Registrant (McAdam) brought an unknown male in the room and engaged in
sexual activity.
'The risk of emotional and psychological harm in engaging in sexual activity next to the young person is significant.

'The
Registrant's (Ms McAdam's) behaviour was a serious abuse of trust...her
actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for the Code of Practice.
'The
Registrant (Ms McAdam) did not demonstrate sufficient insight into the
risk of harm of her actions. The misconduct demonstrates a catalogue of
poor decision making and she does not accept full responsibility for the
actions.'
It
also stated that having been advised of the consequences of her
actions, Ms McAdam admitted the facts and misconduct and consented to
being struck off.

McAdam, who is a mother of five was not at her home in Coatbridge today.
But her cousin Janice Boyle said: 'She's a lovely person, she'd do anything for anybody.
'I don't even know how she's come about losing her job.
'She's always been a loving mother and I'd trust her with my wee ones. I'd trust her with my life.'
