He
previously spent a 45-day jail term at the young age of 16, but since
then Mark Wahlberg has pulled out all the stops to get his life back on
track.
The
44-year-old actor, who is famed for portraying macho men on the
big-screen, has said the secret to making it as a huge Hollywood
heavyweight was down to staying ‘focused’.
Speaking to Men’s Health magazine
about turning his back on gang life, he said: ‘I had a few
confrontations. But it was really just a matter of “OK, do I want to get
high, end up in jail, or focus, get out of here and never look back?”’

The
Lone Survivor star is now a doting family man, married to former model
Rhea Durham with whom he has four children with - Ella, 11, Michael,
eight, Brendan, six, and five-year-old Grace.
And while putting the past behind him, Mark confessed he never imagined he would go on to be as successful.
‘I'm
very passionate about what I do and I'm able to provide for my family
in a way that I never dreamt of, certainly in a way my parents weren't
able to provide for us,’ he explained.

‘If my kids want to go to college, they're going to be able to do all those things.’
Meanwhile,
it is no doubt is an exciting time for the actor as he is one of the
producers of the HBO programme-turned-film Entourage.
The
series was loosely based on the showbiz life Mark experienced while
growing up as the feature film brought back the entire gang including
Jeremy Piven, Adrien Grenier, Kevin Connolly, Jerry Ferrara and Kevin
Dillon.

But
when quizzed about how he manages to transform his body shape for
films, he replied: 'A liquid diet, running, jumping rope. Mostly jumping
rope.
'Jumping rope is for me a lot more fun than running the treadmill, or even running out in the open.
‘It's more rhythmic. You can change the speeds. It's a great part of boxing training.
'And I'm obsessed with boxing.’
Elsewhere, Mark has been busy getting in character for his newest film, Deepwater Horizon.
Based
on true events surrounding the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion and
subsequent BP oil spill disaster - which remains America's worst to date
- Mark plays one of the crewman on the rig the day it exploded in 2010.
While
casting announcements have only been made in the last few months, Mark
is clearly already hard at work after he was spotted on set in May.
Shooting
some of the first scenes of the movie in New Orleans, Louisiana, the
Transformers star was dressed in a pair of baggy jeans and a loose fit
T-shirt.
The film - which is helmed his Lone Survivor director Peter Berg - is produced by Mark.
It
was recently revealed that Kate Hudson will star in the film as Mark's
wife, other stars in the lineup are said to include John Malkovich,
Golden Globe winner Gina Rodriguez and Teen Wolf star Dylan O’Brien.
